Tiling the top of a platform to match walls
Hi,
I have got to tile a bathroom that has in a corner area that sticks out into the room (its where the staircase comes upstairs). The sides and the top of this area all need to be tiles and the tiles I have are not square. The issue is if I lay the tiles on top to match one of the sides of this area, short edge to short edge then it wont match the other adjacent side as it is short edge (on the side) to long edge (on the top).
On idea I had was to cut some of the tiels to be square hence they would match on both sides.. any other ideas.
Cheers

Ok so I haven't got any photos at this point but I can provide a couple of diagrams. The first shows the part of the room I have issues with (the bits labelled top,side1 and side 2). The flat surface labelled top is the area I have issues with. The second image shows how (roughly) the tiles will line up on two sides and the top. As you can see as the tiles are noe square in shape they will only alight with one of the sides (side 2 in this example).
Does this make it any clearer?
Thanks

Re: Tiling the top of a platform to match walls
There are a number of ways around this depending on the size and what is acceptable to the customer.
1. Fit a solid top on the boxing either worktop or stone.
2. Tile the top diagonally
3. Use a totally different tile for the top, possibly contrasting.
I am sure there are other methods too, but difficult to tell without seeing the bathroom. My preferred method would be a slab of marble or granite to make a solid top.

Much clearer, I understand the problem now!
As spirit has said you have got a few choices. Best thing you can do is speak to the customer, they may say they are just happy for the tiles to line up in one direction (unlikely though), I would either be tempted to lay them on the diagonal or depending on if the customer is using a boarder i would reccommend them to have some nice mosaic tiles making the area a feature of sorts!
Personally I would steer clear of cutting tiles into squares as it can end up looking a bit botched.
Best of luck
