    Default Unrealistic wage expectations?

    Good afternoon all.

I would like to start tiling part time around my current occupation. I have 3 full days off each week and would like to earn £150-£200 each week, would this be achievable and realistic?

I realise that this would involve smaller jobs in the time frame I have available. I was thinking that this could work in my favour as it would allow me to build confidence, experience and speed.

    Does the above seem reasonable?

Thanks for any input. Cheers Si

Hi mate, £200 should be easy to make in 3 days, you would be doing something wrong if you werent, marketing yourself and finding the work is the key to making the ££££££, get that right and you will have no problem at all in exceeding your figures, a decent floor can throw you off that in a day. Start looking now and try and find some tradesmen that can put the biz your way

    ,

Completely agree with Darren that marketing yourself is key, make yourself known to other trades men helps out so much, get ads in the right places and be polite to customers when you meet them....(oh and know what your talking about, but don't bore them to much!!!!)...

If the work is there you should make two hundred pounds in your three days off...
    SPEED MEANS NOTHING WITHOUT QUALITY....

Thankyou all for taking the time to reply.

So I am being realistic, that makes a change!

I only did a 1 week course recently for a couple of diy projects, I took ages but really enjoyed the whole process. I plan on doing a more in depth training course and then teaming up with a good local tiler a couple of days a week, perhaps for 6months to a year, to get experience. I'm not in a rush to unleash myself on the public, I want to take my time and do it properly.
So any tilers need some free labour 1 or 2 days a week near Southend?!?

Yes george792 I am a fireman. Always the days off that give us away!!

    All the best Si

    Thanks for all your input.

Us fireman don't earn bad money, but as George said with the days off the opportunity is there to earn a little extra. As I've said I'm not looking to earn a fortune and hopefully I've found something that I enjoy and might be good at. One day!!

George, hope the course goes well. Sounds like you could have bathrooms sorted then. Was thinking about the NETT course as I've read good things. But ideally I would like to shadow someone for a while. I want a good rep as a tiler not just be a fireman that tiles!

    All the best. Si

i think its very possible but like anything else in life, it wont come to you, you have to make it happen but the figures you are after are very possible even in these more competetive times,,

    Si

You should have a chat with Turkish, he's another Fireman who is from your neck of the woods. He might be able to give you a bit of advice to get you started.
