From small jobs nice ones come
Got a call yesterday guy asking if I would replace a half tile the plumber had taken out of his en suite to mend leak. Well half tile is it worth it you say, was in town today anyway said I would pop down today and sort it. So today arrives at guys house which turns out to be a B&B and nips in sorts the tile charges him £20 and then he asks me to have a look at a bathroom he wants retiled so gave him a price and he accepted price and wants me to look at another 4-5 bedrooms over the rest of the year.
So moral of the story is if you get call for stupid wee job you never know what the outcome will be

I'm totally with you on that one m8, recently done a re-grout which i really wasn't keen on doing but did it and did a good job. The customer has already recommended me to his friend.

Re: From small jobs nice ones come
If someones got a tiny job and it's not silly distance away and I have the time then I'll always go out and do it.
Last one was re-silicone a bath, 10 mins job, got paid enough to warrent going there, and you never know what you'll end up getting from that visit.
Well done Highlander mate

Re: From small jobs nice ones come
I went out to replace a travertine tile a few months ago,3 other tilers couldn't be bothered. Was on my way to pick son up from school took me 25 mins she also gave me a beer.Got £30 which paid for our meal at Pizza Hut and I now have to tile at her new house 30sqm kitchen in travertine,25sqm bathroom in travertine,5sqm ensuite floor in travertine mosaic and her hallway.
Not bad for half an hours work.

Re: From small jobs nice ones come
Doing the smaller remedial or mundane jobs that make a big impact on people. My mate Paul a local tiler, had a customer this recently who needed 2 old discon tiles replacing on a bathroom floor. The customer said we cant get these tiles now, and we love them do you know it and could you plz try and find some. Paul popped off the bath panel and BINGO....1 box of tiles. Now he has a kitchen and full bathroom booked to do for them in new year......Gaz

I don't mind doing repair jobs, people always seem really grateful. And the money is not bad. I always put spare tiles from bathroom behind bath panel, and kitchen tiles under work units.

Re: From small jobs nice ones come
Speaking purely as a customer on this one - I needed my c/h boiler moving on a wall. I contacted one fitter who had been recommended (but I had heard he was a bit unreliable and preferred only doing full jobs) After 2 weeks of waiting I phoned another who was rated - he turned up to inspect a few days later, on time and promise a quote later that day. He called back with a breakdown of the costs and was given the job. He arrived on time 2 days later earned his money and a tip, plus I gave him two replacement boiler jobs for family and friends. One done other pending. All for putting himself out. Not bad.

well done, just goes to show that if you are willing to give people a little time and do the best job you can, then it makes a big impression on them.
