Thers a lot of variables to be considered, could you live on a 4mtr splashback @£12 mtr (maybe a day plus going back to grout) Have a good read through the forums before each job and you'll pick up a lot of pointers.

Interesting phrase! Do you work for another company and not yourself?

Never heard of doing a homer, but I took it as another way of saying doing a foreigner.

Just that my understanding of "homer" is someone who is employed in a particular job and takes on "private" work outwith the company doing the same job but paid on a "cash" basis. That was all.

i charge the same for porcelain and ceramic, but charge more for stone or mosaic.
£20-25 a m2 for porcelain and ceramic, and £25-30 for stone. when i go and price the job i decide how fiddly it looks and weather or not i get a good vibe from the customer then decide my price per meter, i also take into account any travel involved....But, after having brought up all these variables, i price most at £22 a meter then materials on top.

If the jobs very straight forward and basic then I can charge as low as £20 psqm, but otherwise I generally work out roughly how long it will take me and charge day rate, or whichevers is the most.

To me, doing a Homer would possibly be doing something really stupid, ie a Homer Simpson

Up here, "doing a foreigner" would be a racially motivated assault

i believe meter prices should be left for commercial and site work with no obstructions BUT if you have a clear run ie floors etc then a meter price can be advantageous.

£15m2 up to £25m2 seems to be the variable on ceramics and porcelain (low / high end)
£25m2 up to £40m2 seems to be the variable on natural stone..

day rates go from around £80 per day upto around £150 - £200 max...this london nonsense is a load of rubbish, they arnt getting £300 a day, its a myth..the only way you make good money is to be quick and good at what you do. you can earn £3, 4, 5 hundred a day but it will be on metarage hits rather than straight ( i want x amount per da as my day rate)

find out you niche in the market, find out what your main cometetors are charging and then decide make a decision on your needs...remeber, that id you are hitting the budget end of the market then price matters greatly!!!! if you are hitting the high end, then quality and how professional you present your self will matter. dont think rich people are stupid and will pay silly money because you have a new van and web site. they didnt get rich by being stupid....explain what you will do confidentally, show them the benefits of your tiling and business and price accordingly..everything has its fair price.

how this helps you a bit
