Default Floating floor - No choice!

Hi All. First post on this forum so hello all.

I have a floating floor (water resistant T&G chipboard/polystyrene insulation in a kitchen that needs to be tiled.

Overply not an option as floor level continuity would be out.

Ripping up floating floor and screeding not an option.

The floor is around 16 years old and feels pretty solid.

I know tiling this is a bit of a no-no but should I have no choice what would the forums view be on the best options to try and safeguard against future failure?

sorry if it has been asked before.

    Thanks

    Hi and welcome......

Sorry but you do have a choice.....and that is not to tile it....this type of floor is asking for an installation failure....be it 1 week...1 month or whatever it shouldn't be done without ripping it up and framing the subfloor out etc.....

    The decision is yours.......

    Hi Thanks for the reply.

I know what you mean. If I frame it out I may as well screed it

If it really is a case of not tiling floating floors why are Granfix/ ardex etc promoting adhesives for tiling on floating floors?

    regards

You need to drill every corner of the tiles, and get a nail gun and nail them down, if you don't the buggers will move..(That's only a joke please don't do it) Really mate you will be wasting money even attempting to tile this floor.

If you read the spec a little closer they also say the floor has to be stable...And chipboard onto polystyrene is not a stable floor......

We can only advise you what we think...only you have the decision of tiling it.....

Good luck which ever way you go......
