Hi
I have just recently completed a kitchen wall which measured 6m x 1m (my first paid job!). They wanted brick style tiles and I charged by the day and predicted it would take 2 days.
How long would it take normally to complete????
Thanks
David

Many factors to consider:
1-Depend how quick you are
2-How many sockets to cut around
3-how big the tiles are
4- what type of tiles are they , ceramic , porcelain , trav.
Need more information.
1. Just started out so not as quick as an experienced tiler
2. There was 4 sockets
3. They were 6inches by 3 inches
4. They were ceramic.
I am very fussy so think thst why it took me so long but just want to know roughly how long it would take a experienced tiler to compare how quicker I need to get.
Thanks
Sir ramic did you tile and grout all in the same day? I was told I should wait to the following day to allow the tiles to dry????

It takes as long as it takes.....a good job is what counts and as long as you are happy with what you priced it at..then no worries.......you do not have to be a speed merchant to turn good work out.....![]()

in and out in 1 day mate!!
Thats the problem thou cos I said I would not charge anymore than 2 days as that's what I thought it would take me or maybe a few more hours. I priced it at £240 and they knocked me down to £220. I took the job as it was my first one and want to get more experience and a customer base. However, I have now done 3 days and have to go back to grout tomorrow.
They are really pleased with my work and have said they will pay me £250 as they are so pleased. I am just worried that at this rate it will not be cost effective. Mind you I should have asked what tile they wanted and not assumed they wanted just your bog standard tiles which would have been less hassle.
Next time you do a similar job youll be a bit wiser and a bit quicker!

Tiled grouted and polished off for diner but it is not a race if you did a good job then it is all good.

Wot is this obsession with speed? (I get enuff of that from the wife)
Experience speeds you up............if your new to the game, take time to get it right, and speed will follow. We have all done it, and still do, estimate so much time for a job, and get it orribly wrong.........or some other factor cocks it up.
So..........take your time and get it right. The punters will be happy, and your'll get possibly MORE from it........Jobs I mean![]()

Yes it was tiled and grouted in same day. I used bucket adhesive, the job was for shop fitters and needed to be done ASAP.
The job was also away from home, do you think the client would have paid for a hotel for one night plus expenses and 2 days labour or a m2 rate and travelling expenses.
In a perfect world i always grout next day but its not so .........

I can understand that but I want to aim at the higher market and do a good job cos Im such a fussy person I cannot cut corners and refuse to do so. Thanks CJ Again for your comments. I will learn from this one for sure!
I have managed to get good contact and got a lot of work coming my way so will stick to being a perfecionist and ask for more money!!!!

No I am saying I like staying in hotels

So do i as long as it paid for....welcome to the real world

David, You should not be concerned about how much time you take over a job. All that matters is that you do a good job and the client is happy with the results. Nobody remembers how long you took to complete a job but they will always remember if you do a bad job. Speed will come naturally to you when you gain more experiance but right now all you should concentrate on is quality of work.![]()

Is it dry yet Neale![]()
I dont think he stuck around long enough to notice!!!!! Only joking cant really say anything seen as thou my grout is not even on yet!

Don’t mean to be rude to you but the job did not take three days because you are a perfectionist it took three days because you are in experienced. The reason you asked the question was to see what you were up against .I would have don a very good job in half a day and charged £200.00 including the adhesive and grout and the trim that is what you are up against. So I don’t think charging moor is the solution.

Bang on Deanotile we live in the same world
No offence taken, good to get a range of views. I agree with you I am new so it will take me longer than an experinced tiler. However, I am a perfectionsit and it will always take me longer that most other people because of this. My girlfriend tiles (not for a living but for family and friends) and she is much quicker than me, but she freely admits her work is no where near my standard and she does not have the patience I do.
So yes I am a perfectionist that needs to get a lot quicker to keep up with you guys. Did you mean half a day or half the time as me???

A job like that i can easily get £300 plus for, and it would take me a day and a half to complete..I don't give a toss if somebody can do it in 20 min...Your bang on mate about aiming your business to a higher market as that's what i have done and the companies i tile for rather have quality than speed. Im not the fastest tiler, but i normally get £200 plus a day from the builders etc.![]()
