Rocks on a mesh
My client has turned up today with the border tiles I was waiting for, she said they were "like pebbles on a mesh".......well they are on a mesh alright. but they are the size of eggs....they must have been nicked from chesil beach....
She claims the shop guy said use floor grout, is this correct ? they are tumbled stone so I assume they will also need a coat of sealant ?
any advice would be appreciated.

Re: Rocks on a mesh
Thanks for the pics. but i wish they were only that size....they are literally about the size and shape of small eggs, not flat like the ones in the photo.

Re: Rocks on a mesh
Yes, grouting, anyone ever grouted these things before ?? how do you get down into the gaps...which are quite large, and how do you get a decent finish....???

Re: Rocks on a mesh
Pebbles on a mesh should be fixed with a flexible adhesive allowing the adhesive to squeeze through and help fill the gaps. Grouting with the same colour is helpfull but any Mapei ultracolour plus should be sufficient for gaps up to 20mm.
Unless white the pebbles will not benefit from sealing before grouting as they are to dense to absorb. Whipe away all excess grout before polishing with a dry rag and sealing to finish.

Using the stain stop first jut makes it easer to wash of the grout (in my opinion)

Yes this could be the case however due to the density of the pebbles they absorb very little to do them first will seal the stone and when you visit after grouting stain stop will remain on the surface will need cleaning off and could quite possibly bubble. If SS is allowed to bubble it will need stripping off which is a pain in the arse.
Even if you seal only once the above could occur.
Of course just an opinion as you have said

Re: Rocks on a mesh
Yeap, do alot of splash-backs with rocks/pebbles etc, treat as stone and seal. Grouting is the tricky bit, not leaving it too long and making it look nice around the stones. Just take time.

Re: Rocks on a mesh
yes wetdec you can seal after it dries in fact you can seal it as many times as you like but imo once is sufficient before grouting for a pebble border as the border he seems to be talking about are actual pebble borders and so not very pourous at all.
