If you don't enjoy tiling then it will be the hardest job in the world as you work alone and have nobody around you to motivate you.
As for me...I LOVE IT!
Varley
if you don t enjoy tiling and its not paying the bills forget it and do something else if your heat isnt in it your flogging a dead horse
Just feel down about it all because i thought it was what i wanted but i genuinely hate it..might be better as a sideline thanks for the replys lads..![]()
I never discoursage anyone from tiling and always try to be positive, but your feelings seem quite strong about it, if you hate it then to be honest that answers your question...tiling isn't for you. If you are just having a bad day/week then trust me, things will get better.
Varley
Thanks Varley hates a strong word it was unfair for me to use that, so i will see what happens the work i have done has been excellent even had tips from the customers the problem also is that i have had one job in three weeks done loads of advertising been to the tile shops etc i think i might enjoy it more as a side line so then the pressure to earn a wage is off me its all very confusing at he moment...
Any newbies feel the same out there..!

Just starting out and bricking it mate. I want to do it just lack confidence, and also worried about making it pay etc, think i might have to do two jobs for a while and see how it goes, but gotta give it a fair crack or i'll never know, as they say "doubt is a theif, that often makes us fear to tread where we might have won" Hang in there mate.
Hi mate, I did my course at NETT with Darren and his team, he gives you some excellent advice and knowledge on the Business side of the tiling trade not just the tiling. I don't know where you trained and I don't want you to take this the wrong way as its not ment to be patronising, but if you are struggling to get work why not think about going on a course that will help you with your business and also your tiling, or take a step back and look at what else you can do to get more work theres a lot of people here with good advice on where to get work. You are bound to feel like jacking it in with only 1 job in 3 weeks mate but think of what you've already put into it before you do, also from what I have read on here its not just you that is feeling the pinch with the credit crunch,
good luck mate,
Lee.
Its hard hems no doubt about it, if i was you i would test the water first do a few jobs for friends and family, also see how your work load goes when you advertise etc, i was made redundant and my last employer paid for my training so its no big lost to me am glad i decided to take the plunge because it will always be there as a sideline, but at the moment i have a morgage and mouths to feed and the monies running out, i think that is also clouding my judgement...
if your hearts not in it . give it up compleatly.
theres no good trying to fight it. if there is nothing there.
i looooooooooooove tiling.
Hi lee, i did a four week course in coventry and it was excellent and i have advertised in the local rag, internet etc also got my cards around a few tiling shops problem with me is that i dont like having no work sat at home gets very boring...Any advice from yourself would greatly recieved thank you...!

There is no point in trying to earn a living on a self employment basis if you don't like what you are doing. The simple reason is you will have no motivation, your work will dry up and therefore you income disappears.
Bite the bullet now if you really don't like it and do something else before your funds run out and you become "desparate".

Dptiling i have ability to tile i think that after working in manufactoring for so long its a big change and the lack of work can be a downer aswell am not normally a moaning git.lol
The confusing thing about it grumpy is that am under to much pressure financally to enjoy what am doing, the added pressure is confusing me if it was in a couple of years time it woundnt be a problem, i was only at my last job for a couple of years so i didnt get much redundancy...
mate think about doing it as a side line get work doing something else to keep you active and stop you becoming bored. For example on CDTs website they have a list of jobs available as long as your arm. And not just with them as they are part of a Large group of companies, however if you got a part time job with CDT for example you stay within the tiling community. You already have a lot of tiling knowledge and you would be on the front line so any work passing through the doors you could consider as sideline work, its just an idea. The works out there don't sit at home if you don't get another type work, broaden your area mate instead of dropping cards etc within a 5 mile radius of where you live make it 10 miles!

Am in the process of applying for a taxi licence its crap i know but atleast its flexible and i can tile around it...thanks for all your replys lads..

Money is money mate! Good luck!

If you have no work don't be sitting at home because that way you are making sure you're not getting work in. When I first started on the days I had no work I'd be out visiting all the conservatory companies, stopping when there were builders at a house, putting cards in the doors of cars in the likes of B&Q, Asda etc, leaving cards in plumbing centres, I'd visit anyone I could think of. Here is something for thought..always have business cards on your person and use the 3ft rule...whenever someone is within 3ft of you give them a card, be it in a shop, in the pub or wherever...Mark.

Thanks again for all the advice guys....

Good luck for the future, what ever you decide to do......
you need to enjoy the job your in otherwise you'll slowly get more & more depressed!
good luck thou m8!
You must above all else enjoy tiling if you are going to be any good at it. If you dont and you just look at it as a job then i'm afraid it's not for you. You might have just had a bead day or week mate and this is why you feel this way. This happens to us all.
God luck whatever you do.
Hi Ninja, just wondering is it that you really don`t like tiling or do you not like it at the moment cos it`s not paying yet? Think back to your course, did you enjoy it? the jobs you have done did you get a sense of pride when you got positive feedback from the customer, can you see improvement in your work with every job? Now do you still hate tiling or is it the "credit crunch" no moneythat you don`t like. I`m not trying to kick you while you are down but work has gone slack for a lot of people on here, if you still enjoy tiling stick at it, things will improve. As the credit crunch hit I thought my phone had been cut off, my wife put an advert in yellow pages .com, one month later and my next 6 jobs from yell.com. Sit back, have a beer and tomorrow renew your acquaintances at local tile shops, don`t just drop cards, spend time and get to know the staff, every little helps. Keep your chin up and your tools clean and you`ll get there.
Do you use the name Ninjatiler for working or just for the forum?
Personally I think you're onto a winner with the name, especially for mid to top end of the market, younger people!
If you do any marketing/advertising - use that name!

Good luck from me too Ninja which ever road you take.

Don't carry on doing something you don't enjoy mate, there's nothing more sole destroying
