Thumbs up DustBubble

So you've finished your tiling, just done the grouting and the customer asks if you can just drill a couple of holes for a shelf

Now if you knew about it to start you would have drilled before grouting because as we all know the red dust stains and marks grout, but they didn't tell you and you have grouted, what to do
Well this has happened to me loads and I have just found the perfect solution to a pain in the bottom problem 'DustBubble' DustBubble.com, home of the disposable dust collector for drills.

So simple to use, cheap as chips and available in B&Q. Saves all the hassle of cleaning up works a treat, hope this helps some of you who may have had the same problem

Great Tip!!! These things have been around a while in one form or another but if a customer ever asked me to drill a hole the answer was always a big NO. Never wished to be unhelpful biut once did a shower screen for someone as a favour it cost me a new shower screen because I accidentally slipped with the drill and damaged theirs. Then the row of tiles I was drilling one of them split because it was close to the edge, then i tried to replace that tile and the one next to it broke etc, etc, etc

Cost me £79 and a half a day trying to do someone a favour. After that I used to say I will come back in two weeks and drill all your holes for a half day rate

Another tip that I read on this forum was to tape an evelelope under the hole, or my wifes mandatory rule in my, sorry, her house, use the vacuum cleaner as you drill!

Or do the old fashioned thing of holding a damp sponge under the drill bit as you drill.

Good options people, there are lot's of different ways, nice to give people lots of options if this ever happens to people on site.
Another tip to stop your drill bit wondering is to carry a bit of ply or something very similar, about 5mm thick by let's say 10cm square. Drill your hole through it first then use it as a template to start of your drilling, once you've started your hole, simply take away the template and carry on drilling. One other thing, always use masking tape on the tile to prevent that initial slip as the drill bit tries to bite into the tile.

Hope this helps, just things I picked up along the way.
