Default Hi! Newbie could do with some help!

    Hi all,

Glad I found this site! FRICK....

I'm not new to tiling, but I'm no expert and could do with some help really.

Removing old tiles, it was quicker to rip them out with the plasterboard still on as trying to remove then was just pulling massive chunks out of the walls.

2 walls are breeze block, one is an outside wall (house is 1920s).

Rest of the walls are stud work. Shall I dot and dab the brick walls for the new plasterboard?

Is it worth getting them plastered if I'm going to tile on them?

We are using Porcelain tiles. Whats best to cut these? Wet tile grinder thingy?

Also, lastly, we have a wooden floor (read, floorboards). I intend to use Shluter Ditra on this. Is this OK for the porcelain tiles etc?

Any tips / tricks to use or lookout for?

    Thanks

    Mark

Dot and dab walls with plasterboard or Hardibacker or aqua panel, whichever suits but don't get them skimmed, will reduce the weight capacity of the wall. Prime the plasterboard before tiling.

A decent wet cutter and dry cutter will suffice for cutting porcelain tiles. When using dry cutter score the tile heavier than you would ceramics with a 10mm wheel then a quick snapping action to break the tile. When using the wet cutter take it slowly.

Ditra should be fine for the floor.

    Good luck mate

For Ditra on the floor it depends on the reason for laying it. If the floor is solid and flat then yes it is fine. If it is not solid then no it's not. You will need to strengthen it first.
