tiling bathroom got 9mm thick main tiles, but the mosaic being used for the border is thinner in thickness. any suggestions or ideas on how to get a good job done so they are flush with the main tile.

I believe the term is 'dog tooth', ive always known it as a 'checking stick'.
A shaped piece of wood, tile or plastic used to build the area to made flush up the required amount with rapid set adhesive.

Its like a kind of 'T' shape.
Ive flung a quick 'paintshop' to give you visual idea of what i mean.
Do the field tiles, spacing accordingly were the mosaic is going to go, find the difference between the thickness of the tile and the mosaic and 'fill out' the difference by making the dog tooth to the required depth.
Takes while to get used to spreading , but worth it.

on part of the bathroom the mosaic has no tiles above.
