    Default family tiling rates

I've been asked to price up tiling my mother in laws kitchen/diner and hallway, 22 SQM in total
its all straight forward no patern no border ,i have to self level it and that's it.
shes wants to use 300x300 ceramic tiles.

(i'm still new-ish to tiling so still have a regular job ,going to do it evenings and the weekend .)

obviously i'm not gonna charge her a regular rate but what price would you guy's recomend or do it for in the same position?
    cheers

The only mates rate and family rate I have is FREE (when I can fit it in).

That way they can't / won't complain as they always tend to!

For me, it depends on how big and difficult the job is, but generally I charge somewhere in the region of 1/3 to 1/2 of the normal rate. That way, I feel I get something for the job, while the relative/friend feels it's worth something. I don't charge percentage on materials though, as I usually do.

If the job is really small, like a splash back, I do it for free, or dirt cheap.

for my mother in law i'd charge £800000 Coz she's a dragon LOL!!

I have been doing a few family jobs recently and made the mistake of doing one half price until all the rest of the family expected theirs at the same rate. ****!!!

    Same here.
But i must admit, a couple of mates have insisted I take cash from them when the job was done.

But I have never taken a penny from imediate family, Mother inlaw icluded

I have tiled 2 bathrooms, full kitchen walls with Trav' mosaic, kitchen floor with 600x400 trav, lounge wall with 15m of those brick slate things from PJ's post last week.
Come to think of it, the auld $%@>* owes me a fortune

For family and friends it's free, though they have always insisted I take some form of payment, even a token jesture.

If its a ballache of a job and you really do need to charge them more tell them your too busy or they will think your ripping them off.

I always avoid them like the plague. I did my brothers for virtually cost and he thought that was dear. I quoted my sister £80 a day reluctantly and she got a pole to do it cheaper and then the shower leaked and that was my fault I told my mother I was busy for 4 months which was the truth and she said i was avoiding her Now I just tell them all the truth get a tiler I don't fix anymore I just hope none of them get Natural Stone fixed

You said you are not full time at the tiling so I would use it as practice and just charge materials.
