    Default van expenses.

    I have always totted up my milage then claimed it back against my tax at 40p a mile for the first 10,000 and 23p per mile there after. But what i am really not clear on is, can i claim the milege, and all the fuel bills and garage bills too ?

    am i missing out?

    Neil, basically the tax man would expect you to use one method or the other. If you are reclaiming mileage at 40p/mile, this is designed to take account of other running costs as well like you garage bills and road tax.

    It is probably better for you to revert to putting all your motor costs through your accounts and then make a small (if any) adjustment to your tax return for personal use.
