| i know its the most basic, obvious question,but..... | | when planning a floor, how is it agian that you make sure your baton is straight(i end up getting frustrated as when i put my spirit level-as per doing a wall-i have totally forgotten how to ensure it is a completely straight line. Is it you get middle of the room, then measure the same distance off the longest wall?!
Sorry for what may go down as the daftest question ever, but i have forgotten a few of the basics when trying to grasp the hard stuff! | | |

| Re: i know its the most basic, obvious question,but..... | | Just mark a centre line down the middle of the room parallel to the most suitable wall...(i.e take equal measurement to the centre of the floor from that wall, then check it looks good at the end). | SPEED MEANS NOTHING WITHOUT QUALITY.... |

| Re: i know its the most basic, obvious question,but..... | | Depending on the shape of the floor i always think it should look straight and square as you walk into a room so i generally take a line across the doorway the 3,4,5, it of that line so when you walk in its str8 and square the use this line to set out from. | | |

| Re: i know its the most basic, obvious question,but..... | | Good point by Smurf.
I spent an age measuring and getting the perfect starting point for my floor and from viewing inside the room is was just right. However I dry laid a fair chunk to check on awkward cuts etc and what do you know on leaving the room and looking at it coming back into the room - it was miles out.
I took my straight 'edge' from my view from the entrance hall and although it was pre 'taking a tiling course' diy job, it was a fair attempt and at least looked 'right' as you entered the room.
