Re: Tile fixer..( why?)
Im only part time, but it's the enjoyment of creating something, highly visible, from scratch.

Re: Tile fixer..( why?)
Mines the enjoyment of wearing customes underwear .... oh no ......ermmmmm .

Re: Tile fixer..( why?)
Its the job satisfaction for me, you start with something thats not up to scratch and turn it into something thats new and fresh. Being a stone fixer doubles the return just because of the nature of the product tho its hell of a lot harder.........I love it.
If its all about the money then your in the wrong job as you dont have the interest .......
Its the interest that builds your knowledge and Its the pride that makes you the money

Re: Tile fixer..( why?)
Unlike anyother trade, the satifaction gained being a tiler is immense. Taking lumps of slate, stone, ceramic etc and making it a dream come true for the customer is the final reward....it's good to also be payed...lol

If you asked me that question 5 yrs or so back.. then i would have said NO..( and not lying )...but i am starting to feel the aches and pains at night etc..now.
So i would retire if i only won a good amount ....

Re: Tile fixer..( why?)
its the finished product that i love. with plastering its just a flat pink wall and people cant wait to get you out of there house but tiling has design and when you stand in a nice hotel and look at the marble entrances and plush bathrooms you think to yourself this is as good as it gets in the building game. alothough it is hard work, it doesnt feel anywhere near a physically demanding as spreading so i appreciate it more than most...
oh and like wivers said, wearing the customers underwear is also a big part of the job aswell!!

Re: Tile fixer..( why?)
The money,
the job satisfaction,
the freedom of movement between jobs,
the socialising with all sorts,
the build up of knowledge(both here and work!),
and you call the shots,
all makes for a great career!

Re: Tile fixer..( why?)
You plaster a wall then it gets painted, Thats all they see, the colour. Tiling is the finish product and more thinking on your feet at times on jobs. A good layed natural stone looks the dogs everytime and I've allways worked with my hands so tiling seemed a natural progression from plastering.

The money
Being your own boss
Different job in a different place every single time
Job satisfaction on seeing something I have created
and if I won millions, yes I would still tile because It's something I actually enjoy doing, though it wouldn't be on a full time basis.

Re: Tile fixer..( why?)
Gotta be the looking at the end result that does it for me, obviously the money is a big factor, but after you've just tiled a customers bathroom/kitchen etc and they are really happy with it, make ya feel good doesn't it!!
SPEED MEANS NOTHING WITHOUT QUALITY....

Re: Tile fixer..( why?)
yeah its a wage, but we all need that. With tiling there is an end result. usually a happy customer and job satisfaction.
As for the lottery win, I was actually asked this today by my customer. At 1st i said i wouldnt work again but having thought about this before, i would set up supplying tiling consumables addy grout tools etc.

Re: Tile fixer..( why?)
Its got to be being your own man, working with different materials and tiles, the money and freedom between jobs and lastly seeing the end product and the smile on the customers face when job is complete.

For me its see'ing a result at the end of a job, I come from an IT background where every day is the same and no end result.
