Where to buy backerboard?
I'm tiling a bathroom floor (4sq m) with ceramic tiles on a chipboard floor, there isn't a great deal of height to work with otherwise I would have used 12mm ply. Planning on getting some backerboard but not enirely sure where to shop and how much to price?
I have previously used no more ply but it works out about £20 a sq m which to me seems a lot for the sake of saving 4mm!
Where should I be shopping?

4m2 floor isn't huge CJ, why don't you just use Fastflex or Ardex-flex 7001 straight onto the primed chipboard? There can't be that much deflection on 4m2 surely?

Re: Where to buy backerboard?
The board equates to about 1 sq m per sheet (£14 inc vat) glue, primer and screws are about another £6 per sq m (divided between about 4sq m of coverage) How much are the hardibacker boards? I haven't got a CTD particularly close so any other sugestions are welcome

Topps do hardiebacker! Doesn't add strength to the floor though!

Re: Where to buy backerboard?
Good point Grouters, what sort of price is a bag of fastflex (ballpark) I guess I would need to add some gt1 to my wide joint grout aswell to account for the additional flexability in the floor?
Just trying to add all my sums up while trying to keep the price down.

Re: Where to buy backerboard?
I have got a Topps close by! Guess its pointless adding the board if it doesn't firm up the floor?
Topps seem to be pretty expensive for everything, went to talk to them about a trade account the other day but to say they weren't very competitive was an understatement!

Re: Where to buy backerboard?
Depends where you get it from I suppose. Topps is quite expensive unless you are going to get a trade discount, but 1 set should be sufficient for 4m2. I can get it for about £38. Ardex-flex 7001 is cheaper and will do the job just as well IMO. The grout you choose would depend on you prospective tiles and grout width. I have a preference at the moment for Mapei Ultracolor Plus, but I have Ardex FL on my kichen floor. I have not yet used BAL versions of wide joint grout so can't comment on them, but I am sure they would do the job. As you say BAL Wide Joint grout with GT 1 is about as flexible as BAL grout gets.

Re: Where to buy backerboard?
The board i was looking at was in a local tile shop, i think it was about 900x600. Seemed like a lot of money, hence the thread!
Thanks for giving me an idea of price though, can anyone tell me a rough price for a bag of fastflex?

Re: Where to buy backerboard?
If you have a trade account, you should find they are reasonably competative on adhesives with good discounts. Their discounts vary depending on the products. Big drawback is you have to pay up front for your stuff.

Re: Where to buy backerboard?
Ta Grouters, the fastflex (or similar) seems like the way forward, I don't think i will be able to do enough trade to keep a trade account at topps as i'm only tiling part time(and the prices only seem to decrease slowly).
The centre where I did my training can supply me ady, grout & adatives at pretty good rates so i will have to draw up a list!
