Hi mate, i advertised on yell.com waste of time and local papers the same. What you need to find is a market where nobody is filling, if you have loads of tilers advertising in your local papers etc don't follow that trend and advertise there as your wasting your time and money. Go to local kitchen and bathroom fitting companies with your buisness card and introduce yourself. Get some really nice buisness cards not the ones you know £15 for 10,000, its first impressions that count and ask to see the manager and explain who you are where your from etc, offer to do a job for them on a trial basis to show them how good you are. I have said this time and time again i find local free papers etc you get the rubbish jobs as the people who normally read this wont a champagne job for lemonade money, so aim your buisness at a better market and it wont come to you you have to get out there and tell them your the best. I have been tiling for three years and i dont advertise anymore as people are getting to know me. Had a call today from a women who has had a kitchen fitted by a firm i do alot of work for and asked me to tile it, i said i cant do it for three weeks and she said she will wait as the kitchen firm said im the best tiler they have had...Now thats the best advertising. Good luck mate

I hear what your saying about advertising but the problem is that you need experience to have to confidence to go into showrooms etc.

I know what you mean but That's the same in any buisness, if you don't believe in yourself you will always be working for the cheap end of the market, practise on friends and family pretend they are customers.

you guys are right you need to develop some sales skills. I am an ex salesman of many years experience and can tell you it gets easier with time. Just grit your teeth and go for it, be polite and ALWAYS say thank you for the order when it comes. A successful rep once said to me that when everyone else had gone home he would make one more call, guess what it works. Simply ignore the no's the yes's will come.
