pricing but losing out
howdy peeps,,done a few quotes recently but sem to be losing all the work, please advise me if you think this is too expensive,, a kitchen splashback 0.6m by 6 metres,,kitchen floor 7.5 m sq,,bath floor 3 m sq,,and bath walls in brick effect at 6.5 m sq i also included materials in this price and gave them a total price of 610 pounds,,now i dont think that is expensive, based in edinburgh,i know people are saying charge 22 pounds a sq metre inc materials but i dont think this is a feasable price anymore considering costs for fuel, travel, depending on cuts etc on job etc etc every job is different? any advice or views peeps much appreciated

Re: pricing but losing out
Its not always the price some times you have to sell your self and covince potential customers your up to job , you know that but they dont. plus if your not getting the answer you want knock a couple of pounds off per M2.

Re: pricing but losing out
Personal choice but i rarely price jobs on a metre square rate any more. There are just too many variables in the equation but each to their own. Porcelains, stone, large format, windows, sockets, mosaics, self levelling, dodgy substrates etc etc. I price my jobs on day rates and adhesives etc separatly.

Re: pricing but losing out
day rates ok but costumers still no wiser to wot its gunna cost him like you say lots of variables could take 2 days could take 3 days . meterage costs are fixed everyone knows where they stand , but like you say everyone to there own.

Re: pricing but losing out
When i said day rates I mean't work out roughly how many days it will take you then multiply that by what you are happy working for. You can add some or take some away depending on repeat customer, hassle factor, travel time etc

Re: pricing but losing out
i agree,,i work out meterage,,then work out travel,,materials needed, cuts involved etc,,size of tiles etc,,then work out how long it will take me and what im ok working for per day..obviously im just starting so im slower but i also take a much less amount per day as to what an experienced tiler with good speed would take.
