Tilers working to cheap...
Talking to a mate of mine who is doing 20 houses on a site, price agreed £22 per sqm he was half way through the job and turned up today and site agent said two tilers came on site yesterday and said they would tile for £10 sqm inc adhesive and grout. Agent said he was very happy with his tiling and if he matched there price he could continue....He said he would not work for that price. Why do people tile so cheap, it just buggers it up for everybody...

Re: Tilers working to cheap...
Ruining it for everyone, how the f*** can you tile for £10 m2, it puzzles me !!!

Re: Tilers working to cheap...
Think it comes down to perceived quality personally. They must throw up the tiles for that price to make a living. No doubt the developer will be back to you mate to have the shoddy workmanship put right!

Re: Tilers working to cheap...
God that sucks. I've seen similar things happen here in Sweden; cowboys stealing work for one quarter of the going rate. Alot of those aren't even registered with the tax authority.

Re: Tilers working to cheap...
I think the phrase "you get what you pay for" is rather apt here

Re: Tilers working to cheap...
He told the site agent that when he leaves site with his tools he wont be back...

Re: Tilers working to cheap...
Well hope he's got enough work on, so that when the site manager realises what a t*** he's been and asks him back, he can happily tell him where to go

Re: Tilers working to cheap...
we used to get £10 a metre on site when i was contracting with a tiling firm which is the average rate for firms but defo not when your self employed £18-£22 is about right depending where you are in the country when our firm where tiling redrow, barrats, persimmon homes etc for £10 a metre the work showed it we never even used spacers just butt jointed.
if any of you who have been on or who live in new houses that have been built by major house builders then you can see what im onna about the tiling is defintley sub standard i have witnessed some horrific tiling some by general crap tilers and some bad tiling on site by good tilers if you pay £10 a m2 then you will get your £10 a m2 standard
oh and so called tilers who do work for that amount of money on site one word PLOT BASHERS and thats all they will ever be
