Plastering and Tiling - Marketing
Hi all
I haven't been in the building industry for long, i'm qualified and fairly experienced at Plastering, i've recently done a tiling course and would now like to break into that market also.
How do other plasterers and tilers out there market themselves, seperate businesses, different names etc?
or together?...if together what do you name the business just something simple
like 'Joe Bloggs Plastering & Tiling'
or 'Joe Bloggs Plastering' and list tiling on the back
or something like 'Joe Bloggs Property Maintenance'
I want to be competitive in both trades but don't know the best way to achieve this.
Thanks
Aaron

Re: Plastering and Tiling - Marketing
Hi mate
I am also a plasterer and have recently become a qualified tiler. I found been a plasterer everyone was asking me if I could tile. I simply just have on the side of my van Kingsway tiling and plastering which has worked for me well so far. I find most people assume that you may have to skim the walls before you tile them. It is much nicer to lay tiles than the dreaded plaster, that is why I like to emphasize in my trading name "tiling and plastering"
Hope this helps you mate. Good luck

"D. Andrews Plastering & Tiling Services" for me, only set up business 1 week ago so cant really offer an opinion as to how the name affects trade

Re: Plastering and Tiling - Marketing
Alright Jock...
I know what your saying...
I was wondering which way round to put it 'plastering and tiling' or 'tiling and plastering'
technically it should be the first as plastering of some sort may have to come first even if its just d&d.
not sure if it will really make a difference putting either or first as to the amount of work you get in either trade. These trades go hand in hand, people want tradesman who are multiskilled, less work for them, more work for you!
Can't really compare the 2 trades at the mo apart from the obvious mess etc, to be honest i'll be pushing the one which is the most lucrative.
Thanks m8, good luck.

Re: Plastering and Tiling - Marketing
I'm a plasterer who also tiles, I have been trading for 2yrs under the name of Plastering & Tiling Solutions, I have never had a problem, when I go to price a Plastering job i'm the plasterer, when i go to price a tiling job i'm the tiler.
Plastering & Tiling Solutions.

Re: Plastering and Tiling - Marketing
i started as a time served tiler but i did a 4 day plastering course and now advertise all aspects of plastering mine is
LM Ceramics wall and floor tiling specialist
Plastering
Bathroom instullation ( cant do plumbing yet hoping to go on a course very soon)
i think if your a plasterer by trade then put joe bloggs plastering services if you render or do screeding then list them
plastering
rendering
screeding
tiling

Re: Plastering and Tiling - Marketing
I do as I said tiling and plastering but I can do screeding, dashing, rendering and dry linning but really can't be a***d After 27 years, The reason I keep the plastering going is it works well with the tiling.

Re: Plastering and Tiling - Marketing
Do u reckon its worth listing all the things you do on your card even though i'm considering putting all of mine on the back it looks so crowded
skimming
rendering
ceilings
floor screeding
repairs
walls and floors
ceramic, pocelain and natural stone
bathroom installations
wetrooms
underfloor heating
tanking systems
where do you stop!?
Do people really need all this info? isn't 'Joe Bloggs Plastering and Tiling' self explanitory.
add contact details, very high quality logo, design and printing.
I prefer my cards simple after all they are meant just for company name, contact details, so many cards i see look so overcrowded with all the lists of things people do. Shouldn't these maybe put on a website or on flyers door to door.
What are your opinions?

Re: Plastering and Tiling - Marketing
Could put all aspects of plastering,Bath installations I would have thought covered the whole thing Sometimes the cards can look over crowded
