1. Best brands?
2. Do I have to do whole floor, or just areas that you want warm?

Re: Underfloor heating
1. I don't know what make is classed as better.
2. You don't need to cover the whole floor to get it all warm, possibly 2/3rds.
3. Don't know.
4. Yes, to actually wire it up, but anyone can lay the matting out, just have to check the currents ok before sinking it.
Good luck

I'm going to be putting in underfloor heating in my bathroom to keep the missus happy and I've looked into it. There are a number of brands out there and they charge different amounts for basically the same thing so shop around (I went with Handyheat).
If your doing the kitchen I suspect you don't have to do the whole floor but the floor matting (which you would use as cable is more common for bathrooms due to getting around sink, wc etc.) but because the matting can be stretched you may want to do the whole foor as it won't cost any more money.
As for cost, to give you an example of an all in one kit from handyheat for 2m2 - £140; 3m2 - £161; 4m2 - £199.50; 5m2 - £231....up to 23m2 for £676.20.
You can lay the cable, probe and put the timer up yourself but it needs to be connected by an electrician to a fused spur. Also, check the cable before laying and once it has been put down before tiling!
I hope this helps however I'm no expert and I'm just giving you advise from looking in to it myself only a few weeks ago!
All the best

Re: Underfloor heating
A 3m2 named brand kit with thermostat would be around £140 delivered as an example. We have all sizes and insulation boards.

Re: Underfloor heating
If you would like to give measurement of the area covered Devi do a matting underfloor heating system that you can get from us.
With the measurements i can contact a branch for you to find out a price.
As rob the bubble said you can lay it down yourself but you will need an electricrian to connect it.
Devi has a 10 year warrenty.

Re: Underfloor heating
Just to add to this if the floor is concrete then you might want to use insulation boards to keep the running costs down.........

Re: Underfloor heating
Hi Dboden, I'm in the process of refubishing my flat. I've installed electric underfloor heating myself. I'm not a builder or a sparky but I am competent in many diy jobs. (I guess I've watched to many diy shows) I bought the cable kit which doesn't have the mat from ambient heating a few years ago, but I think I would have prefered the mat with the cable for an easier installation. (I mean laying it on the floor) Like yourself when I bought the kit I had no idea how to install it. I knew nothing about ufh but I wanted to have stone tiles in my flat which covers 60 square meters with ufh in every room. (six rooms) I asked the person how to install it (David at Ambient) who was kind enough to advise me and draw a diagram which helped. I read through the instructions and then I started the install. If you do decide to install it yourself make sure you plan where your going to put the thermostat and fused spur before you start chasing the walls out. Also if your not competent in electrics or know nothing about electrcal wiring then it will be better to get an electrcian to conect the wiring to the fuse box. I was ok because I know a little bit about electrics and my friend is an electrician. Anything I was unsure about I would ask him. If you need anymore advise let me know. By the way. I've tested all rooms and they heat up nicely and I'm still working on my project.
Kind regards
Paul

Re: Underfloor heating
I've just realised. I'm a newbie to forums. Today is the first time I've ever used a forum. Unfortuately my refurbishment project is still wip, (work in progress) when I started it I could only do a few hours here and there. However when finished it will be to a very high standard with all the mod cons.
Regards
Paul
