Discuss Hardie Backerboard and then Tank????? in the Tiling Forum at TilersForums; If a downstairs shower has been lined with Hardie Backerboard is it necessery to still tank or just go ahead and tile?...
spot on but you could tank for belt and braces but you dont have to providing you have a good seal on all joints.
I appreciate this is not a current thread but I have read differing opinions on tanking hardibacker. My situ is........ I have to build a stud wall which I am doing with 4x2 timber and 12mm hardibacker. This wall will have a shower mixer and head over a bath. Shower is for regular domestic use. Tiles will be 450 x 330 ceramic, adhesive is BAL Wall + Floor Professional. If I don't tank, what is the best way to seal edges and corners, would it be wp1 polyester tape with a covering of tanking or are there any other suggestions?

[quote=ph121;233637]question on hardiebacker....
is it possible to fix to brick/bonding/finish plaster wall
using tile adhesive or plasterbord adhesive?
I'm sure you can but then you are adding the weight of the hardibacker to the total recommended load of 20kg/sqm which is pretty impractical, unless tiles are made of balsa wood........
also am i right in assuming hardibacker and aquapanel are essentially the same?
thanks[/quote
Not 100% sure but aquapanel is waterproof while hardibacker is waterresistant, sure others on here have more knowledge of the differences, though.........
