    Hi Negsey

    welcome to the site
New to tiling and taking on large format tiles and slate?
    Braver man than me !

I am sure you are up for the task - but best of luck anyway

Grade the slate by thickness before fitting seems to be the way to go
but do a search on the site - the answers are there

off to bed - I have to clean up the minton tiles I took up in my own house in a rash moment and fix the mess I am left with - (at least no nasty dust)

As said above grade the slate into thicknesses. I normally do a small, medium.large. Start laying the thickest slate first as when you get to the thinner ones you can always build them up. Prior to grouting thoroughly clean the slate and seal with a colour intensifier. I normally do one coat before and 2 after. When grouting, and depending on the spacer used I will either use a grout gun or float, but just keep the area as clean as possible and dont do too large an area at one go. Regards the floor, there are many threads relating to floor prep in the forum. Any other ???? please ask.

Also a good idea to place the thinnest slate tiles around areas with the least foot traffic.

Let me try to explain something for you.

If you tell us the size of room we can help you with how best to prepare the floor, the tile size can have for eg a bearing on which way you might lay them.

If the finish of the tiles is given then it can help re, best sealer, best proces for fix, suitability to the job in hand.

The type of floor boards as there could be any number of differing types would help again in advising on preperation..

All of these things can help us help you in the long run and would get you more advice from people who know what they are about.

If asking for advice then condider these.

hi the tiles are 300 sq. charcoal in colour and 10mm thick. they are all the same thickness so no worries there. the floor is 8 sq/m and will be boarded out. really could do with some tips on what type of adhesive and grout to use. thanks.

you need to use flexible adhesives and grout. i would personally use grey grout. work clean and seal with lithofin slate seal before and after grouting. hope this helps
