Default able skills

Hi every one and any one,

im going to able skills soon to do a six week tiling course, im in the RAF and thought tiling could be my way out, a lot of people say you cant just do a course and go straight to work for your self so im doing the course as early as pos, this means i can do as much work as pos on week ends and the hols, i have not been able to find and feed back on able skills though and am getting worried.

Does anyone here know or have any exspireance with able skills?
cheers for any help.

Hi sranners, welcome to the forums. I did a 4 week course and then went straight into the trade professionally. Just coming up to my 1st year end so it can be done quite easily and many people have done it.

The hand skills required is the big thing when you are learning. Some people pick it up straight away some take a little longer. Knowledge and skills in tiling is not the most important thing though for going it alone, you need to have a business mind first and for most. You can be the best tiler on the planet but if you don't find and reach your customers you are not going to make any money.

I can't comment on "Able Skills" as a trainer cos I didn't train with them but there is plenty of feedback on the forums to give you info. Further to this, if you plough your way through the thousands of posts on here you will give yourself an excellent groundbase of knowledge before you train.

It is possible that no-one on the forums has trained with the Able Skills so that is why there is no feed back on here.

Good luck, keep us up to date on your progress.

Hi Mate,

I did a basic plastering course wit Able skills in Dartford, Kent if that`s the one you meant. Found it to be ok apart from our instructor going sick half way through and then we had to share an instructor with the C&G course. That meant that we weren`t really being watched as much as we should have been to pick up any mistakes. Saw the tilers there doing a course and they seemed happy, never heard any bad reports but i was only there 5 days.

Thanks for all the come backs guys, i cant wait and am looking forward to getting stuck in to the course, and yes it is the able skills in kent. Im just hopeing that doing the six week course in one go is not to much for me to take in, i would be interested in hearing if people have done the course and gone straight into work.

i have a lot of jobs already lined up for friends and family but i think it may be down to me doing for free (no labour) so i can get my skills up for my NVQ,
im not going into tiling straight of though as i dont leave the raf till aug next year, the plan is to work week ends so to get my speed up.

If any one has any advice then type away, no doute it will all help.

cheers, scott.

I took a course at Able Skills last year and I was very impressed. The tutors are friendly and very knowledgable.

They were pretty booked up when I called so I couldn't get a course straight away but it was well worth the wait. They also arranged accommodation for me.

Please leave them some feedback HERE - as much information as possible helps others find the right course.

I'm surprised it has taken so long to get some feedback about them to be honest. I hope its the start of much more. It usually works that way.
