Bal Tiling Course
Just had a letter thought the post about bal tiling courses.
just wondering if any of you have done or are gonna be doing them.
£160 for the advanced 2 day course seems really good as it covers a wide range of advanced tiling techiques.
Gonna put my deposit down this weekend

Re: Bal Tiling Course
the advance course might be different, but bals 5 day courses are basic.
the 2 day course i presume will show you fastflex and just show you what impregnators bal use, be interesting to know if im wrong.

Re: Bal Tiling Course
the two day course is designed for rendering walls prior to tiling, underfloor heating and other advanced tiling techniques. plus ill be using there bal products.
Seems really good

Re: Bal Tiling Course
I guess it could be interesting if you end up using some products that you have never used before.

Re: Bal Tiling Course
Since the days when British Gypsum ran dry lining courses the purpose of these courses hasnt changed :
If you cant tile go find someone who can to teach you because it will NOT make you a tiler so dont order vinyls for the van !!
If you can tile then you might pick up a tip but generally go to work
If you use Bal love Bal and are daft enough to think Bal is the answer to all your tiling issues then pack your bag.
Courses were dreamed up 20 yrs ago to increase product awareness, get you to use the promoters products and you could tell your clients you had been on a course. Some years ago the marketing departments realised that they could pay for their marketing oppotunity by charging for the courses.
Genius !!!
Oh hang on you will get a product manual or maybe a cap

Re: Bal Tiling Course
it also sounds like a good course with techinques i would like to learn, £160 isnt alot of money, after the course i will be capable of laying underfloor heating and the knowledge of laying a bigger veriety of tiles

Re: Bal Tiling Course
As long as you feel you will get a benefit out of the course tysfoot then that's all that counts.
Have fun on it and post what you thought about it.

Re: Bal Tiling Course
£160 isn't alot but your probably know what your been shown.
the underfloor heating your be able to order a manual or a dvd from the companies who make it and your know just as much.

Re: Bal Tiling Course
Hey as Fekin says go for it if thats what you want m8 after all 160 isnt a lot for training and accomodation for a couple of days if you get the benefit. I was just giving an opinion.

Re: Bal Tiling Course
Don't forget to look at the true cost of the course:
2 day course at £160
2 days lost earnings at (say) £300
Fuel, food and incidentals at ???
That's a lot of money to me if you are only looking at learing to lay underfloor heating (get a CD/DVD as previously suggested) and some advanced tile fitting tips.
I look forward to hearing your thoughts, post course.
I hope it proves worthwhile - good luck.

Re: Bal Tiling Course
These courses run by companies that sell adhesives are there for plugging their own products too, it's just the way it is, but as long as people can get something worthwhile out of it then all the better.

Hey Guy no problem everyone has an opinion. BAL have this to say on their practical course:
The course is designed to provide information on all BAL products and services and includes hands-on practical work and product demonstrations. It places emphasis on the correct selection of wall and floor tiling adhesives and grouts and the correct installation methods that should be specified
