4 Day tilers
This may have been discussed before but i was wondering how many of you guys learnt your tiling skills on a 4 day course then went straight into it full time?
Did you make money straight away?
I'm doing a 5 day course (inc natural stone) at NETT in a weeks time and was planning on advertising straightaway
I also fit garage doors so would still be doing those too

Re: 4 Day tilers
i went to NETT a few weeks ago. And the amount of info darren teaches you is amazing. You will remember everything! Its abit rushed, so best have your thinking cap on and your eyes wide open. It is really intense, so be prepared!!

Re: 4 Day tilers
4 day course here, but learnt only the basics there, and not all of what was taught was right anyway, but once joining here I learnt the theory for everything I ever needed so far and out it into practice to a good degree.
I know for a fact I could work in the very same tiling course college and teach newbie would be tilers far far better than I was taught there myself.

Re: 4 Day tilers
I did the 5 day course at NETT. Best thing I ever did, I am not full time but I make good bloody money from tiling just on weekends (sometimes more than my full time job).

Re: 4 Day tilers
like fekin said you only learn basics on a 4 day course i cant see anyone after doing a 4 day course going self employed straightaway the best courses are the 32 week nvq course like don valley did or at least a 4 week courses
u need more experience if ur going to tackle bigger jobs. my dad tried a 4 day course he only did splashbacks and would never be confiendent enough to go self emloyed

Re: 4 Day tilers
5 day course at NETT last April, self employed the next day.Have had enough each month to pay the bills and some months had LOADS spare.
6 months after the course I did the vast majority of large very high spec bathroom showroom (22 bays out of 32 and 150 metres of trade and customer toilets)They will only pass work on to me because of the standard of my work.
If the course is good, like NETTS then its entirely dependant on the individual. If you are good with your hands, have attention to detail, are a savvy buisness man,are good with people, are willing to work your nuts off and have a bit of luck then theres nothing to stop you going out and having a succesful career after a weeks training.
If you require more of a confidence boost,go for a longer course.
Remember it is down to you,I think about 4 of 12 of us are still tiling from my course, you could tell then on the course the ones that would do well and the ones that would only last a few months.
BEWARE:Many more people that go on the courses don't go on to be full time tilers than the ones that do,at least you will be able to do your own tiling and that alone makes the course worth while.
