Been on this site before & find it really useful!

I looked 12 months ago at Tiling Courses but couldn't committ due to funds. So, started a C&G Electrical night Class...'What a Mistake!' Course content Shocking (Scuse Pun!) n how, when the Sparky Trade comes with consequences in events of errors they are putting out a course like this!! So not too happy & coming back to tiling...

I work W/ends so have 3 days in week to look at putting myself about once I've done the course, whilst keeping a well paid job in reserve...

Once you've completed the course & gone solo (& I can see many people successful) would you in all honesty recommend Tiling to be taken as a full time profession. I'm in Print, which like a few posts on here I've read (DevonR?) is on its Arse so looking for a change...
I'm not doubting the quality of training. I can see from a nightschool perspective that the Intense courses seem the way to go for Mature Students needing skills to change Career.

Yes! I have read posts on here, but would like to see some views from others who have followed this route, from what they were doing before to where they are now. Or even those about to or are just in middle of doing such a jump...

What an excellent post! Thanks. That knocks the socks off the 'do you know of a course in wales' type posts. Sounds like you're heading down the right road mate. I'll stay out of the conversation for a bit though - might input later.

Well, just got back from Sparky course. With the 1st exam before Xmas, Xmas Break & now into Mid Jan, it has been 6 weeks!! Since I picked up a screwdriver...so for all those whom knock 5-6 weekers not providing tuition, from my side of the fence, I'd've had at least 240hrs Practical by now & could well be on my way, but seeing as C&G state 2yrs to get L2 2330...I'll be in Print for a lot longer & Miserable yet!!...

Done plenty of reading with tiling & always looking at Forums, looking at Technical posts...just no practical, but is deffo under my skin & am seriously looking at it.

The Electrics I thought was a Trade at lesser risk from inbound cheap labour due to Regs, but seeing it now, Part P & Competance along with 17thEd. is all ya possibly need to House Bash...& Yes! That is thinking 'In The Box'...

So would like to hear 'Real World' Impartial, Honest opinions, advice regarding the Trade, not so much the 'This/That Course is Great' Cause form posts I've read, there's too many to choose from...

PS...Great Site Mate! You do a Great Job...

It takes along time to get a decent regular wage in,make sure you have at least enough money to pay the bills for 3 months(At least).
There are more people that fail than succeed and end up having to sell all their tools,van etc.
I know this might sound a bit scary but just get worried bout a few of the lads now on this site that are finding it hard or are throwing in the towel.
I have done the course route and have been relatively succesful but it took a while of not having much money for the first few months and a HELL of a lot of HARD work.

hello claret and welcome to the forums......we will help you if you need any advise...I,m sure you will get some good feedback off the newcomers to tiling...in this thread.....

Welcome to the forums - we have just had a guy do his NVQ2 with us who is also doing his 2330 L3 at college, with no intention of ever doing electrics because of the red tape and regs involved in it all. He is that busy with his tiling that he is going to stick with it. His NVQ & his CSCS card has landed job after job, even at this tike of year.
