Idid a 4 week course and felt it was the right thing for me to do. People learn things at different rates and have different apptitudes. I was not ready to go out and start tiling and charge money for it after my initial 2 weeks though some trainees did so. After 4 weeks I felt much more confident. Only you can decide what would be right for you.
As for pricing, that depends largley where you will be operating from. Currently my work has been such that I charge a day rate for my services as I am a little slow at present. Hourly rates can restrict your earnings potential as you will still probably have to allocate a full day to do a kitchen splashback for instance, even though it may only be 2 or 3 sq mtr. If you charge £25/ sq mtr it isn't much of a reward. Day rates get over this a wee bit.

Just sending an estimate to a new customer at "around" £140 per day but there is a bit of travelling involved. As my skills and, hopefully, demand increases that will be going up.
