STC Warrington
Hi I'm down for a 4 week course at STC Warrington and was wondering if anyone has done this course and any feedback would be appriecated, and also the certificate is "their own" and wondering if it's worth anything ie would it be recognised in the tiling industry, am looking for a complete change, I realize the hard work ahead but I want to get the best training that is available preferbaly in the north west/midlands area.
Thanks in advance

Hi Jackpot,
Welcome to the forum and good luck with your new career path.
A certificate that is awarded direct from a centre is not worth the paper it is printed on, it will not be recognized at all.
On a 4 week course you should achieve a recognized level 1 certificate and be working towards achieving your NVQ level 2.
Again good luck and all the best

Re: STC Warrington
Sorry what I meant was an In House certificate that is not recognized by an Awarding Body is not worth the paper it is printed on.
Hope this makes more sense

Re: STC Warrington
I'm Reading forums on here and it's just confusing as of what is actually required and what is needed, I am being made redundant soon so was looking at different options available I really want to make a go of tiling, it's something what I have fancied doing a few years back but job/family prevented it, I understand I can't go straight into a job like this with just a few months training so after my first course I will be looking for employment then tiling in my spare time to get expierence, but what is confusing is my first goal, to get a city and guilds certificate then move on or as the course I was looking at dosent seem to offer this qualification just an in house one then it states that I wool be on my way towards an NVQ level 2. An other course I seen is a 2 week one and offers city and guilds. As I will only be trying to find small jobs first ie friends/ family then with expierence fingers crossed fulltime work!!!! Which path would you recommend, I just don't won't to throw my money down the drain, as I want this to work out!!!!!

Re: STC Warrington
Hi Jackpot,
Just a quick heads up mate there is no City & Guilds available in wall & floor tiling.
Centres claiming that you will achieve a City & Guilds are actually misleading you. What you will achieve is unit accrditation.
You will be accredited with 1 unit which is taken from the City & Guilds 6217 Level 1 plastering. The unit covers applying wall tiles into an internal angle finished with skirting tiles. This unit could be achieved after a few days and does not show that you ae a tiler.
Just thought that I would make it clear what you are being sold as I would hate you to attend a course under the impression that you will gain a City & Guilds in wall & floor tiling.
STC used to advertise this fact on their old website but it seems to have disappeared since the new site has been launched. I am not sure that STC are accredited by anyone to deliver formal qualifications, they do however claim to be accredited by TAA (The Tile Association) and CTP (career transition partnership)which is worth nothing as they are not awarding bodies and cant award qualifictions.
Again just wanted to make sure you know what you are buying
