I did a plastering course with there guys. This was sometime after I did one at Shropshire skills. Both very different ways of teaching both very good... took different things away from each course.

David Hare contacted me to let me know they've changed their 0845 number to an 0800 number. I've updated their listing on Tiling Courses | Recommended Tiling Training in the UK - Tiling Courses - Tiling Training - Wall Tiling Courses too.

I have deliberated for several months where to complete a tiling course and I have just completed a week long basic tiling course and then a week long advanced tiling course at Construction Skills College in Burslem. My choice of training centre was important to myself as I would be flying back to the UK from Tenerife to attend whichever centre I picked with the additional expense of flights etc.

Well having never fixed a tile to a wall or floor before this course I cannot recommend this centre highly enough. From learning the basics in the first week and putting them into action to the second week which was far more indepth, learning advanced techniques. From the very friendly first meeting with Dave, excellent tutor (big thanks H) and relaxed atmosphere I thoroughly enjoyed the two weeks and learned more than I thought possible in such a relatively short period of time and now have the confidence to tile in most situations but as we all know we are always learning something new. I now want to do a plastering course and then possibly a kitchen fitting course at the same centre when time and funds permit.
Once again a big thanks to Dave and his staff and see you all soon.

Many Thanks Alan for your post. I am very happy that you enjoyed your time on the course and learnt a lot from it. I look forward to seeing you again in 2009, you enjoy the sun over there in Tenerife, and if you need anything then just give us a bell.

I will be updating the website this week with news of a few new important developments for the centre, so keep your eyes out from next week onwards.

I would also like to pass a big thanks on to H the tutor for all he does for our learners, he really does go the extra mile.

Hi Peter,

I'm glad that you enjoyed the course and that it was well explained by Howard; don't forget he is always there for you if you need any additional advice. I hear that you are already putting to practice what you have learned.

I was though a little concerned with the reason for why you were disappointed, I have forwarded this onto Howard and I have included his reply below, I believe that he will contact you to ensure that you are happy with everything.

As you appreciate each day was completely filled with tasks and on a one week course it is only possible to fit so much into the time allowed, which is why after individually setting out your own training area, setting out the bathroom suite is done as a group discussion/practical activity. Tile cutting and cutting around obstacles is covered practically on day one and throughout the course. I appreciate that some people pick things up quicker than others and I have taken on board your feedback and from now onwards the centre will be open at 8am each day so that attendees have the opportunity of gaining an extra hour a day practical tiling.

Many Thanks for attending and good luck with all future endeavours.

Regards,
David Hare

ps - All tiling training courses are now available at our new centre in Wolverhampton and NVQ’s via OSAT are available at both centres.

Howards response
I have spoken with peter on the telephone re his message to you.

we did cover floor tiling cutting on the course floor tile nipping on day one ie. cutting out various shapes with floor tile nippers.
additionally we set out in a full bathroom situation having an empty bay with a bathroom suite (bath ,sink and ped, and toilet/cistern in place ) this effectively being as realistic as you could possibly achieve. the group as a whole plus each individual contributes to this, we also have a full recap straight after so that everyone understands this procedure.
every person is asked in turn if they are comfortable with this or do we need to recap further ? regarding kitchens and setting out .the key items in the kitchen were discussed on the course and priority given to those key areas with setting out in mind

we also talked at length regarding cutting around toilets and sinks, as at some point in the future it is highly likely that this kind of work will need to be undertaken. Diagrams are drawn to illustrate where the tiles may fall when cutting around a toilet pan and the best way to negotiate around this using a former or a template as the case maybe.
In some instances as you are aware some candidates /students are quick on the uptake where as some may not be so quick and the course or lesson plan has to move on so that the specifics of the course can be delivered in full throughout the time period. However the opportunity to cut around toilets etc was available . it was said on many occasions that if a specific task needed to be done or retried then i was available to go over this again in more detail. I received no such requests.

best regards
Howard
