hi there dont use plugs on plasterboard mate it will just rip it right off the wall. you can get plasterboard fixing. use the metal ones they are better than the plastick one

    thanks Jimmi,
I understand metal for heavier stuff, and plastic for toilet paper bar.

    Am I right ?

Just to give the belt and braces answer have a look at the following thread

    http://www.tilersforums.co.uk/tile-drilling-drill-tough-tiles-like/24990-fixing-sink-tiled-stud-wall.html

I asked a very similar question myself. If you can get on to a stud then do. In future if you ever have the plasterboard off then but some studs in where you need them. Thats not gonna help now but summit to think about in future.

These are what you want for plasterboard walls behind tiles..

    Wickes *–*Nails, Screws & Fixings*–*Fixings*–*Wall Plugs*–*Plasterboard Plugs

make sure the plug is pushed passed the tiles , so when you tighten the screw it won't crack the tiles.

Yep we do the 6mm or the 8mm for plugs

Red Plugs are 6mm and brown plugs are 8mm

But appreciate there are many other colours and styles.

We also do the 10mm 12mm 14mm and 16mm sizes

And if you are using Fischer fixing kits for things like sinks etc then we have the 12mm

But the best selling kit is always the Bathroom Fitters Kit.

That contains 2x6mm and 2x8mm for rawl plugs

If you find that you need a bigger rawl plug and you dont want to spend out on the 10mm 12mm 14mm sizes then you can use the 16mm core which comes with the kit.

The 16mm will take a neat plug out of the tile exposing the material behind the tile (chipboard, wood, metal, concrete, plasterboard)

You can then anchor your fixing through the plug and into the substrate behind. We have done this for example at airport terminals where they wanted to anchor down cash points to the existing tiles. We supplied 16mm drills so they could remove a plug from the tile. They then drilled into concrete and fixed chemical anchors. By doing that they avoided the risk of putting pressure on the tile.

But of course you can just buy the correct size drill to go with the plug. A common one is the 10mm to lock down a loo pan pedestal.

Have a look at our full size range !

Hey Shaun and welcome to the forum. There is NO right or wrong place to post on here. So you get a thankyou from us!

This section of the forum is all about drilling holes into tiles with diamond tile drills cores and holesaws. The forum is split into many sections and the easiest way to get back to the start (or the "main" headings) is to click the green links above:

TilersForums.co.uk | Tile Forums | Tiling Forum > Tile Forums | Tiling Forums | Tilers Forum > Tile Drilling - Drill Tough Tiles like Porcelain > what plugs are good

You can see a copy of it above this line.

To track back to the start just click the FIRST link.

As you drill deeper down into the site (pardon the pun) you will get more catagories.

    Happy exploring !

For light stuff, like toilet roll holder, i just use standard Red Plugs from Wickes, especially if you're going through tiles as well. Why go to unnecessary expense?
