Exclamation Help with etching on mosaic marble tiles

    Hi

We had a new bathroom installed recently with mosaic marble tiles around the bath and shower. I have just noticed white marks and dull spots on some of the tiles. I think our cleaner has accidentally used flash bathroom spray on the tiles which has etched them. The affected tiles feel slightly rough.

Are there any products anyone would recommend to rectify this?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks

    Fran

The way it sounds is that the tiles have lost some of its surface glaze

if that is the case not much can be done

Hve you got any spare tiles which you can replace with.

As Sir Ramic, is there any chance of photos? It sounds like there is little that a chemical could do as it is likely that the stone has been damaged and not stained. Marble can be re-polished but this is no small job. Pics would help.

    Hi

Thanks for your responses. Here are some photos showing the tiles. There are a few patches around the shower that have been affected.

Fran on picture 2 it looks like the grout lines are cracking so check for movement and the spray has certainly eaten into the honed surface. If it's not too deep it could be polished out with a marble paste.

As John above, possible repair with the proper gear.
Not good if that is cracking in the grout too, in a wet area too !

Thanks! There doesn't seem to be any movement in the tiles and I think the grouting is ok. Any recommendations for how to polish?

    Thank you

To be honest I think that it would be worth getting a pro to carry out the work, its a bit of an art to blend it in to the rest of the wall.

The crack in the grout will defiantly need looking at as any water that makes its way through there could cause a lot of damage to the rest of your house.

To me it looks like the bleach has damaged the marble re-polishing may get the marks off but it depends how far into the stone it has gone. Maybe try using a grimex soloution as this has an ammonia in it which may draw any impuritys out. Otherwise i would get someone to re-polish them and its definatly worth paying someone else to do it otherwise your looking at costings of machinary, pastes and cleaners.

Using chemicals with amonia will only etch the tile worse or all over - do not do that. Look to a marble polishing paste or a product called 5x first. If you can get some product you can usually try rubbing it with a terry towel. I am not sure what products are available in your area but it is worth a try before paying someone to fix it for you.

there is a great pruduct called renu which comnes in 330ml bottle.
it is a cream polish that you apply to etched area add little water and plish with a cloth.
it will put the plish back on marble /travertine and hpolished limestone.

i use it regularily when clients drop orange juice etc on tiles we have laid.
