Default Travertine worktops stained help please

Hi there this may be a question for you cleaning and refurb pros.

A customer of mine had Travertine worktops fitted in there kitchen and it was sealed with 6 coats of LTP Mattstone by the installers.

after only a few months stains started to appear, now these stains have been caused by the customer who is a very keen chef, he does a lot off food prep and this has been done direct on the travertine topps and he uses alot of lime and lemons etc. So his guess is that this is what has caused the staining.

Now he has tried removeing the stains and this is what he has done.

LTP Grimex diluted and then made it stronger until at full strength keeping it wet and adjutating it as he went

LTP power stripper again diluted and then full strength again adjutating it and keeping it wet.

    LTP fullers earth

and the stains are still there and he says that they have not improved atall.

Is there any other products that you can reccomend that would do the job?

and once removed is there a better sealer that can be used for travertine kitchen worktops?

    thanks steve...

Travertine should not be used as worktops IMO..

But seen as it has then they can be re-honed.. the acid has etched them and can be sorted no probs..

Thats just what i was thinking but wondered if there was a way to remove it with an aquamix product as they have something that is supposed to remove light etching and scratches etc.

You can use a honing powder to remove certain marks but without actually seeing it , it is hard to say.. are they polished or not..?

The travertine tops have got what i would call a semi polish finish its not great. in fact the tops are really poor quality. imo.

and he wants the stains removed and for it to have a semi sheen when finished, i will try and get a pic up for you to see.

The renue is just a buffing cream and might work but the knockdown is the honing powder i mentioned.. it will remove light scratches and mild etching.

I see what you mean.. quite a bit if filler for worktops..

I would use the knockdown but try it on a travertine tile first to get used to how it works before setting about the tops.

I haven't used the aqua mix one.... i did use some from a stone guy last year but i didn't know what make it was . he had it in a clear pot and i used it on granite..i worked fine and i finished off with my black buff pad..

Another option and it is the cheapest way is to use wet and dry.. but again use a scrap tile to test grades.
