residue left after sealing polished porcelin
hi guys,
1st post so bare with me!
just laid 20m2 of 600 x 600 cream polished porcelin..... from b & q, i know wot yous might think, as i did after reading all that i have on here, after i had bought them, but they were spot on size and square and went down a treat!
They had a protective plastic sheet on each indavidual tile like a laminate or shrink wrap, no wax coating. removed each sheet, laid them, cleaned them with heavy duty cleaner, grouted them, claened again left for 3 days, then sealed them with an impregnator sealer. now the sealer has left a greasy film on top, i can almost buff it away but not compleatly?
done as it said on the tin, also tested them with a teabag and marker pen before sealing, looked like they needed it!
will this film dry in/ dissapear? or is there any advice of somthing to remove??
thanks in advance for any hel[p!
Dave

Re: residue left after sealing polished porcelin

Re: residue left after sealing polished porcelin
i gave the whole floor 2 coats buffing between coats, i just tried kitchen roll and its almost removing the film but even touching the tiles with my hands is leaving a bit of a mark.... not quite the finnish i was expecting after all the work!! says on the tin it dries in 4 hours, fully hardend in 3 days, its been on 2 days, i'll give it till tommorow if its no beter think i'll need to try remove it all.
any good remover to recomend or would heavy duty tile cleaner lift it?

Re: residue left after sealing polished porcelin
the only thing i can think of is that most sealers state that the excess that has not inpregnated needs to be removed.... just wondering if you did this? if you did i aplogise..if not then maybe the sealer has set on the tile leaving the residue.

Re: residue left after sealing polished porcelin
Hi..
Apply a light coat of sealer to liven up the surface and then buff till no smears.
No need to strip back.

Re: residue left after sealing polished porcelin
Apply with one cloth or a sponge, brush, wipe off with a clean cloth, buff with a new clean cloth and then a final buff with another clean cloth

I'd stick to the same sealer, if you use another brand you may get a chemical reaction

Re: residue left after sealing polished porcelin
Dave,
I'm in the same boat as you!! I chose the grafite version of the same tile and used the products recommended. Have you solved your problem as I'm considering removing the sealer?

Re: residue left after sealing polished porcelin
hi Wendy, in the end i used a little white spirit on some kitchen roll, a light rub over the tile then used a couple of micro fibre cloths to buff up to a nice shine, i found useing a dry side of the fibre cloth on each tile stopped any smearing! got the cloths off mother she got them in aldi !, hope this helps,
Dave.

Re: residue left after sealing polished porcelin
I had a prob with this tile, in the end I used my orbital sander with light grey scotch brite pads, came off a treat, just try a little bit at first and see how you go, ok mate,

Re: residue left after sealing polished porcelin
I've had this problem with LTP stuff before. On the tin it said to add some more and buff off straight away but that didn't help.
All came off after cleaning up the grout haze though.

Re: residue left after sealing polished porcelin
Am I wrong in thinking that if the sealer is sitting on top of the tile and so much needs removing then maybe despite what b&q say they don't need sealing as they arn't pourus ?

Re: residue left after sealing polished porcelin
They are not that porous.. but it is the polishing process that opens micro pores and these are what grabs stains etc.. so sealing aids in the maintenance/cleaning of these tiles.

Re: residue left after sealing polished porcelin
When sealing polished surfaces with an impregnating sealer it is always best to use the minimal amount possible. Buffing/rebuffing/re-rebuffing will never clear the marks away. The best way to treat high dense tiles is to lay a film of sealer on with a cloth, buff after 15 minutes or so, and leave to stand for a few hours. This still leaves the wipe marks, but using a light cleaner such as L.T.P's Grimex (not any abrasive acidic strippers) with a low concentrate (1:5) to clear the marks, re-wiping with a wet cloth.
