Default HELP! Stained Limestone

Tiled 2 areas. One bathroom and seperate toilet. 300x300mm white limestone. My partner forgot to apply a coat of Fila Limestone Sealer and grouted up. Resulting finish, very bad. You can see lines all over the tiles, stains from the grout etc. Ideas anyone? The main bathroom area is fine but the seperate loo is the immediate problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated fella's.

Many thanks. Tilerman42

Hi Kev, afraid i do not know the name of the material. What i do know is that he got it £20 m2 which seems very cheap and the shading was terrible. I mixed from 10 boxes at a time to get a blend but the over all effect is not that good. Fixing is perfect but just does not look right. I am in a bit of a panic to be honest. Done lots of this tiling in the past but have never seen this before. Ideas mate?

Right mate!!! You can buy a stone polishing kit for your fein machine. Contact Dave at Tradetiler and he will sell you one. Do a test area using 400 grit if it doesn't work go down the grits progressivly. Dont forget once you get the finish you want go over it with the higher grits until you achieve the final finish you want. Sounds like a lot of work but it is very quick for an area that size. Then seal it with a good quality sealer sparingly following the application directions to the letter.

Hi Dave and Kev. No pics im afraid, not sure if it would show up anyway. Is there not a chemical that would do the job. Its not just the floor in the loo area its the walls aswell. I hadn't considered sanding the tiles, sounds like a job.

Den,

Yes Aqua Mix do some stuff called Grout Haze Clean Up and you could back that up with Extreme but it will be quicker with a Fein mate. By the time you apply it and allow for dwell times then wash it off and redo areas you have missed then rinsed, then waited for it to dry etc, etc I wouldn't bother but up to you.

HI Kev, thanks for that. Bit more info if you have time. Never had the need to sand stone before. Everything has always gone OK before. The floor is about 4 m2 and the walls about 7m2. Can you tell me a bit more about the tool you mentioned, time, how to do etc.

Thanks

I apologise in advance as this may not be of use, but I'm sure the more experienced guys can either confirm or dis-credit......

I had to remove the sealed finish from some marble, as it left a matt finish and the customer wanted the original "glossy" look. I used the "Stonefix Heavy Duty Grime Remover" mixed 1 part to 5 parts water. It took 3 or 4 applications but eventually took the matt sealer off and once I had then re-sealed the stones, they looked spot on.

It might do the job for you, but pics would help to display the problem better???
