| Ditra or no ditra? | |
Hi All,
A bit of your expertise would be handy please.
I have a kitchen to do which is half concrete 12m2( slate tiles covering at the mo) & half chipboard 10m2 ( covered with laminate)
The chipboard section is approx 20mm lower than the concrete section.
Now the customer is looking to have travertine throughout, with the area that is chipboard having UFH.
The plan is to remove the old slate & cover with self smoothing, then build up the chipboard area with ply overlay, UFH & self smoothing to bring it up to match the height of the concrete, obviously with an expansion joint fitted.
Question is would you use ditra over the heating in that area or would a flex adhesive be ok on its own.?
Many thanks.

Hi,
we have installed a lot of UFH, and I don't think we have ever done one without Ditra or another membrane over top of the UFH. We like the extra protection that the membrane provides, and Ditra supposedly doesn't retard much of the heat from reaching the surface of the floor. If the customer will pay for the Ditra, IMO it is a good material to install in conjunction with the floor heat. |

I personally would definately go for ditra with UFH and Travertine, couple that with a less than perfect timber base and I think it is essential.

Thanks for your help guys. Useful info as usual......just one thing, would it make sense to cover the concrete floor area without UFH with ditra also to keep things simple with regards to getting the height levels right?
Where is the best place to order Ditra from at a good price?
Concrete+leveller+ditra+trav
Chipboard+15/18mm ply+UFH+leveller+ ditra+trav
