Topps own make adhesive
I have 33sqm of tiling to do and was looking for a cheapish but decent adhesive. I have searched the forum and topps own stuff seems to be rated as decent addy. the tiles are 300 x 400 so will be using the bagged stuff but what i want to know is it suitable for shower areas (will be tanking the shower area) and is it rapid set?
Also the guy in topps directed me to a matting type of tanking system which is pretty new he said but is alot better than the paint and tape stuff. has anyone ever used this matting and it has got me thinking if it is a matting will that not make the tiles go to different levels if im only tanking half of the way up the wall? or do you have to back butter the rest of the tiles to bring it out to the level of the matting?

Re: Topps own make adhesive
Topps adhesive is made by Palace chemicals......and the matting you are on about is made by Homelux...it is a membrane very similar to kerdi and can be bought on a 5 mtr roll cheaper from CTD.........or give wetdecs a shout and see what he does......

Re: Topps own make adhesive
Been using Topps rapid set today - it's okay but not a patch on Ardex, Mapei or Bal.
Bag of S***e, in my opinion!

Re: Topps own make adhesive
Captian slow,
Is toppfix rapid set? do topps do there own bagged adhesive that isn't rapid set as im kinda slow at tiling just started out. Could you suggest any brand thats is as cheap or not much more expensive than topps own make that isnt rapid set?

Re: Topps own make adhesive
Hi Woody,
Yeah it was Toppfix. It's just my opinion but I hated the stuff and I'm just glad that I finished the job today.
I like using rapid set, although, I'm not a fast tiler either so just mix smaller bucket loads.
As for cheaper addy I will leave that for the likes of Dave et al to answer but I find Mapei to be quite realistically priced.
