    Default Friday rant

A job was offered to us and this morning we turned up at the house to tile a "small feature wall". It was actually about 5-6m2 of Slate Mosaic /bricks. Very thick and very heavy ( 57kg per m2 without adhesive) the walls were not flat and consisted of one area skimmed plasterboard and one area skimmed plaster.

We questioned the company that sold the tiles and were told. As long as we bond the plaster with their primer and use their adhesive it would be fine !!!! When questioned about the weight limits for plaster we were once again told "As long as we bond the plaster with their primer and use their adhesive it would be fine". We walked from the job !

This info came from a major tile supplier... what are you supposed to do in situations like this ? I don't like turning work away and hate leaving the client unhappy but its ridiculous. i can just imagine that now the customer will contact the supplier who will say that we are in the wrong....at which point I will be printing info from the TTA, Gypsum plaster and anywhere else I can find to back myself up .

Even the painter on site knew it was all wrong !!

yep and they make good tiles, but their PST's need a kick up the jacksie, they told a guy I was working for last year that slate tiles would be fine on "glossed" skimmed walls.....as long as we used their primer
