    Default Boxing-Out Shower Wall

    Hi everyone

I would appricate some advice please.

Set up is a typical sized bathroom, the bath is against two walls with a gap of approx. 7inch at the shower end, which I'm going to box out to the edge of the bath, a thermostatic shower (bar type) will be installed on this false wall.

The plan is tibmber studs, 12mm WBP plywood, 6mm HardieBacker board and then tiled with 600x300 glazed percelain tiles.

    Area in question is 1700mm x 700mm.

Backer board will just be screwed to the plywood, plenty of screws!

Am i correct in saying backer board does not require any preperation prior to tiling?

    Thanks Shneld

Why use ply and then backerboard, why not just 12.5mm backer..

    I had thought of that.

Wasnt sure if just backer board would take the weight of shower & abuse from been used.

As above, use the thicker backer board, it'll save you time and yes you can tile straight on to it, no prep!

Do you have a tile giant or other local tile adhesive company near you, you could get it cheaper...

Hardiebacker board is slightly more at Tile Giant & the smalest bag of adhesive is 20Kg. I only need 5 at the most.

The price quoted for a 10kg is really expensive, i would be looking for a 20kg for less than that price.

I agree with your thoughts dave re strength, but i nearly always marmox ensuring my studwork is more than well built. Hardi is heavier, around the same price, harder to cut, messier to work with and needs tankingJust my opinion
