Default demister pad behind inset miror..........

I regularly fit inset mirrors, building up wall with hardibacker and using glazing adhesive/silicone, but usually in cloakrooms. I need to fit 2 in a wet-room/ensuite and think a demister pad would be good in this situation. My question is, how good a grip can i get with the demister pad between the mirror back and the hardibacker?
Does anyone have experience of this?

Is the pad the same size as the mirror or smaller?

haven't bought the pads yet but imagine they will be 30/35% of the mirror size

I don't have any direct experience of this sort of thing, but would say that 70% of the mirror attached to the wall is ample. Or recess the pad so hat you can fit the mirror flush.
