Hello, my uncle is tiling my bathroom for me and I noticed yesterday he is applying the adhesive to the tile ond not the floor.
He is tiling ceramic tiles onto a wooden floor using flexible adhesive.
Is this the correct way to apply the adhesive?

Hello and welcome,, no it isn't the right way.. is he blob fixing..?

Hi, this is not the recomended method for fixing floor tiles, adhesive should be spread on to the floor using a solid bed trowel. You say a timber floor, is this 18mm exterior ply? I do hope it is not T&G floorboards or Chipboard. More info please.

Hello, its the floor boards that were under the carpet. Shall I ask him to stop? Is there a chance they wont stick properly if he applies it to the back of the tile?

It's the bit onto floor boards that you could have problems, yes stop him..
"Experience is simply the name we give our mistakes"

Tiling to floor boards is a big no no despite what some tile shops may tell you, deflection ( bounce) is the big problem. I would make sure there is no movement in the T&G (adding extra noggins, to the joists) then over board with a tile backerboard, such as James Hardie or the like. You will have major probs if you do not do the prep work.![]()

They wouldnt be down come your first anniversary.

Don't be to hard on him, a lot of so called (pro tilers) have no idea about tiling to wooden floors. Good luck.![]()

As above. No to floor boards and do not apply to back of tiles unless he is applying adhesive to the floors as well.

Maybe he doesn't like you.Just kidding.
All of the above............its a defo no no
if he persists, why not say " come to think of it Uncle,, a wedding ring would be better" (and cheaper and more long lasting!)
