Started a new job today and proceeded to rip out, room was half tiled with emulsion above.
Tested the emulsion by sticking to it and pulling off, paint came with it.
So whats the easiest way to strip the paint? Never had to do it before. Substrate is Paramount, so cant reboard which would have been my preference.

Re: Paint

Zinsser peel stop is a good bonding agent

Re: Paint
Sorry, should have stated that its to be fully tiled.
Elbow grease......figured that would be the answer!

Re: Paint
Yeah lots of hard work i'm afraid
Look keep this to yourself right
Search Results for peelaway - Decorating Warehouse
It's a waterbased paint stripper, you apply it, then cover the walls in film, wait a bit, then paint falls off

Re: Paint
the paint has to come off. i use a Fein, but a sander will do.

Got a Fein, which blade you using?
Liking the paint stripper but the only detail I can find on the product describe, (amongst other things), plaster backgrounds, not plasterboard.

Re: Paint
if it's flaking off plasterboard it must have been really badly applied!! sanding through that will damage the substrate.
I've never used the peel away on plasterboard myself but can ask a few people who might have... I'll let you know tomorrow mate

Re: Paint
paramount is a pita. Partitions are thrown up and decorators just hit it without any prep. Its plasterboard so it must be ok, lets not worry about the dust on it or any of the other carp!

Dry wall with taped joints should be sealed before any decorating and in most it's never applied and as you know price can be a bit tight and I've seen one thick coat of emulsion used and no mist coat.

Re: Paint
Years ago, I was advised that a weak mix of rapid spf smeared over the walls and left to "crust", then washed off will take the paint with it. I've never had to try it, but maybe someone else could confirm or deny?

Tubbed will just wash off as it is not resistant to water

Re: Paint
Like I said Doug, thats not an option. Partitions are Paramount.
Spent today with a 6" paper stripper and a few stanley blades. Deep joy. However the paint it off and the board is intact.

Re: Paint
i've used these before, and found it relatively easy to get emulsion off with it.

just have a good few spare blades for it, and it's not so bad a job to do.
