Discuss fixing 1/2 inch hardibacker board to celcon block walls. in the Tile Adhesive, Grout and Substrate Preparation at TilersForums; i need to fix hardibacker boards directly to celcon building blocks.i cant stud it out as space is limited in the shower.i was planning to rawplug it to the wall ...

    Default fixing 1/2 inch hardibacker board to celcon block walls.

    i need to fix hardibacker boards directly to celcon building blocks.i cant stud it out as space is limited in the shower.i was planning to rawplug it to the wall and use stainlesss steel screws.however the wall is slightly out about 1/4 inch overall.i could pack it out ,but are there any methods.

    Is there any reason not to use dot and dab plasterboard then tank if it's in the shower..

    The celcon blocks are quite soft if memory serves me right.

    im fitting travertine and want to use hardibacker boards.can i just screw it down or just use ordinary adhesive to help pack it out.dont want to tank it.cheers stuart

    the pdf is for use with hardibacker 250 .i take its thinner?.anyway the tile adhesive says pva the wall if its porous 1 part to 5 water.the notch with a 5mm trowel.fix with 50mm screws..my question is i was told last time not to pva anything as its a big no no as im gonna be laying travertine tiles over the top.can anyone confirm before i do it.

    Don't pva use sbr if you have any

    like this Toolstation > Structural > Roof Compound & Waterseals > SBR Bond

    Should only need 1 but thin it so it soaks in about 3-1...those blocks are quite absorbant..when it's dry splash a little bit of water on the wall if it soaks in do another coat, if the water lays on the wall that should fine.

    o.k will check tomorrow.i have put one coat on of bal sbr diluted as per bottle.and yes it sucks like a good un the wall.smells kind of fishy as well.
