Hi, I have a big project on next month and it appears that the best products around are Mapei. If anyone could answer the following I would much appreciate it, cheers.


Which primer and Mapei adhesive for tiling on WBP ply (Floor)?

Which primer and Mapei adhesive for tiling on skimmed plaster (not boards)?

I will using ceramic tiles for this project

How thick is the ply and is it walls or floor..?

The walls plaster.. Primer G and do you want slow set or fast set.?

9mm Ply for the floor and would require rapid set if poss, cheers

Ok so primer G and Mapeker flex for the walls..

To the floor.. BS5385 does state a min of 15mm ply for the floor and keraquick would be the adhesive and no primer required for the surface.. but it is wise to sbr the sides and back of the ply for moisture control.

Would this be Bal SBR or could I use Weber PR360?

Bal Sbr is fine but PR360 isn't one i have used and not sure if it is a water repellent like neat sbr is..

Could i not use keraquick for the walls? and finally best places to buy Mapei products.

You can use keraquick for the walls yes.. just mapeker flex is cheaper.. but only a couple or so quid.

Best place that i know always stocks Mapei products is Tile giant..

cant add much to what Dave has said already. Sound advice as per usual!

it also states in the BS5385 that The use of sheets and boards that are subject to movement from changes in moisture content, e.g.
wood-based materials such as plywood, chipboard, wood particle boards, etc. should be avoided if at all
possible. If such boards have to be used they should be restricted to small areas and tiles should not bridge
joints between boards. It is good practice to seal all exposed edges and the backs, but not the faces, of such
boards with a suitable sealer to prevent distortion by atmospheric humidity changes. Care should be taken
to ensure such boards are not installed in a condition where their moisture content is higher than the
ambient equilibrium moisture content once the tiled installation is in use. Failure to observe this can lead
to subsequent warping and distortion of the boards with consequent cracking and delamination of the
tiling.
so you may want to think about tile backer boards.
