Default Where to buy tile adhesive

    Hi All,

As a standard DIY'r where is the best place to buy a reasonable tile adhesive / SLC? I'm in the East Midlands, Nottingham / Derby area and we do have a local tile giant however their prices do seem pretty steep based on their website?

P.S. If this is not something to discuss in the public forums can someone tell me who to ask about getting access to the others

I dont know tile giants web/retail prices Andy but dont fall into the trap of buying a cheap brand. Its only a wetroom so you will only need one bag. Mapei is cheaper than Bal and is quality.

    Hi faithhealer,

This is also for the bedroom floor so looking at about 20m2? I have seen some posts on here about Nicobond, I can get that about 25% cheaper than Mapei based on Tile Giant's online prices. I'm assuming Tile Giant charge the same price in store? Probably looking at about 15bags to get started......

hi darky, best thing to do is go into the store, maybe they will have offers on etc etc, speak to the staff who may be able to help you

you wont need 15 bags of addy for a 20 metre floor more like 5 or 6

with a decent floor you will get around 3 to 4 metres per bag darky.

if your doing undefloor heating also i would suggest self levelling over the wires 1st with a flexi latex based slc before you use adhesive

    Hi Kilty,

Yeah, I am considering the same thing with SLC, especially for the main rooms although with the wet room I'm concerned about the gradient being messed up witht he SLC.

Well the way I am working it out:

Mothers Lounge: 16mts for backer boards, 16mts SLC, 16mts Tiles
Wetroom: 3mts over underfloor heating ?SLC with gradient?
Main Bedroom / Attic Conversion: Approx 20mts SLC and Tiles.....

Now I have a sinking feeling lol

    Hi Kilty,

Yes, 6mm backer boards so thanks for the advice. Grey tiles and looking at grey grout so will stick to the grey adhesive throughout

Thanks Paul, the attic conversion has just had 9"x2" joists put in and some additional steel so should be ok there, its 22mm chipboard with ply over, the other floor is concrete

if you go to a supplier willing to purchase a decent quantity they may give you the materials for less than normal retail. So work out how much you need, go to a supplier and ask for their best price based on your quantities. If they give you a price ask if they will honour that price should you need a few more bags.

Picked up SLC, Adhesive and Grout today from Tile Giant in Radford, guys were very helpful and I got a reasonable discount off everything. Only bought 3 bags of Adhesive and SLC for now to do the 16mts in my Mum's lounge.

Thanks for all your help and advice, much appreciated.

    Andy

P.S. I got Mapei Keraquick, Mapei Latexplan 2 Part and Mapei Ultracolour.
