i am gonna use quartz in my bath room but worried about the weight on the walls
i have 2 out side walls and 2 stud walls
is it not a good idea to have the 2 out side walls skimed? what should be done?
and the stud walls where there is no water use ply and just tile straight on to it
or will plaster board hold the weight?

Luke, quartz will be too heavy for skimmed plaster and I wouldn't advise tiling onto plywood. Do you know the weight (per square metre) of your quartz tiles?

you would be better of putting up hardiebacker board

the weight is 24kg per square meter

is that to heavy?

border line mate because it will be a thick bed of adhesive with probably about an 8/10mm trowel and back buttering the tiles then grout you won't be far from 32 kg per m2

i can live with border line mate i wont have the plaster board skimed

what do i do about the out side walls do i hack off the old render and have a smoth render put on so it level and plub and tile straight on to it?

If you take it back to the brickwork and re-render with sand and cement, that will be fine to tile onto, although there will be a waiting time whilst s/c render dries and cures. A better course of action may be to dot and dab 12.5mm plasterboard onto the brickwork and tile onto it.

only thing i really dont like dot and dab the hollow sound of it etc and fixing

I dot and dabbed plasterboard onto breeze block in my bathroom, and then left it overnight. Plasterboard adhesive is strong stuff.

you can mechanically fix plasterboard to brick/block work as well as using the plasterboard adhesive. i don't know how to mechanically fix myself. somebody else I'm sure will explain that for you.

no i ment getting a fixing after as you have the little cavity
but as you say i will not have to wait for so long befor it goes off
