Default Painting and tiling on plasterboard ?

I am currently refurbishing my separate toilet and bathroom.
In the bathroom I am having wall units in an area of new plasterboard stud wall. Not a damp area. What do you guys Recommend for treatment before tiling with rapidset?

As I want the tiles to 'sit on' the unit top I won't be tiling behind. I could fix a hardboard back to the wall or paint the board. Never painted on plasterboard before. Any problems?? Also if I changed the layout at any time would painted plasterboard represent a problem for future tiling?

personally, I'd tile behind the units (for future change of layout). If you're using ceramic tiles as opposed to porcelain or stone, you could safely skim the plasterboard and then emulsion the areas that aren't tiled.Just be sure to tile before emulsioning tho'

If I tille behind for future changes the riles would have fixing holes and waste pipe holes if the units were removed. I will keep spare tiles in loft for future changes.
