Default Removing oil stain in Slate - unsealed!

    Hi,

Just had slate floor done, but have not yet sealed. I plan to use LTP Mattstone. Unfortunately we got a bit of olive oil splatter near the cooker (oops).

Whats the best thing to remove before I seal - LTP Spot Stain remover sounds like the ticket, but does not list slate on the tin. LTP Grimex does list slate, but seems to be more of a surface grime remover, rather than stain. Hmmm.

Also, what mainstream shops can I get these in - BandQ type etc.? Do BandQ carry an equivalent I can pick up quickly? Fallback is just to mail order I guess.

    Help!

    Cheers

    James

LTP Fullers Earth - Stain Remover (150g)

This is the best thing I can think of, however not sure how effective it will be if oil has seeped into slate.
My preferred option would be to give the entire floor a good coat of LTP stone oil, this will mask stain & also help enhance appearance of slate. Then use sealer on top,one or two coats, when oil is dry.. allow 24 hours.

Easiest option is to replace the tile and get them sealed...

Thanks for the replies. I can't replace the tile, so I'll have to try some remover.

I quite fancy the sound of the LTP stone oil - do you have any links to some pics of before and after? The slate would look better a dit darker (its chinese and fairly light), and as long as this stone oil retains the matt look, and doesn't go shiney, could be a good option.

When you mention LTP stone oil - do you mean this:

"LTP Colour Intensifier and Stainblock" - this is listed under Enhanced matt finish for slate.

Can't find "stone oil" on their website?

Aqua mix enrich and seal will darken the slate and possibly hide the mark..

    why can't you change it..?
