Prep & Adhesive advice on new skim
Evening All,
I want to tile a shower (tap fed) over bath area with 33cm x 25cm ceramics.
The wall behind taps is 3mm of new skim on new plasterboard and the other wall is 3mm of new skim on 3mm of old skim on cement render on a block wall all sound and solid.
Questions.
How long should the skim be left to dry?
Should I prime the new skim first?
Should I treat the skim with anything else?
Which Bal Adhesive should I use?
Which Bal grout should I use?
What spec trowel should i use as it's wet area?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Prep & Adhesive advice on new skim
Prime the plaster, bal apd or mapei primer g, a single part flexible adhesive.
I,d use mapei ultracolour if you can get it in your area, a 7mm should do you fine but check what coverage your getting on the tile.

I would also tank for peace of mind.

I'd use Mapei too, and I would tank even in a bath area, let alone a shower.

Re: Prep & Adhesive advice on new skim
Try using one of these Mapei tanking kits before you tile mate
SHOWER WATERPROOFING KIT - All you need in 1 tub!

Re: Prep & Adhesive advice on new skim
it is recommended to leave new plaster for 28 days but i have tiled after a week provided the walls have been bone dry for a few days.

Re: Prep & Adhesive advice on new skim
Thanks All,
Can't get Mapie in my area only Bal.
So give the skim 4 weeks to dry
Prime with Bal ADP
Tank with Bal WP1 (Tape the corners)
Tile with Bal - single part flexible & 6mm trowel
Grount with Bal Microflex
Does that sound good?
