mastic hassle in the
Tile Adhesive, Grout and Substrate Preparation at TilersForums;
hiya peeps ,just had my second call back in 6 months to replace a 4" length of bead that has come away
im wiping the area with a dry cotton ... -

hiya peeps ,just had my second call back in 6 months to replace a 4" length of bead that has come away
im wiping the area with a dry cotton cloth before applying
is there a type of wipe u can buy?
what do u all use to prep before applying the bead?,cheers steve

Try using some mentholated spirit to clean the area first, that might help

what areas is it the mastics coming away is it the bath?

a bit of a long shot, but I don't suppose it could be kids tuggig it off could it? I know I've caught my two doing it when they're in the bath

if its the bath steve,is the bath getting filled with water before its siliconed?

all good advice but mastic is normally a water based chalking product not suitable for wet areas i think its best to use a silicone sealant in wet areas

from what youve said steve i assumed your talking about silicone thats in a bthroom thats coming away?

yeah jay,i think some people call silicone mastic here as well and maybe steve means silicone,,ive heard a few guys use the word mastic but they mean silicone..just a mix up i assume

sorry boys ,silicone around a fibreglass bath, filled with water,everbuild
alcohol wipes eh! will they be ok ?

I use Everbuild all the time Stevee mate, not had any problems.....
What size of joint are you leaving before siliconing?

2-3mm i suppose, im thinking its to do with prep, or perhaps the fugi tool i use dosent push it into the gap ,just scrapes it off the top
im gonna try the wipes i reckon
